Step Off Steps
Where do you stand at Step Off? Where will you go next? If you are interested in committing to be a part of Step Off Ministry, be sure to check out our S.O. Step Classes. These classes are offered on a set schedule to help equip you with more information about God, the Bible, and our church and to help you grow in your spiritual walk with the Lord. Finish one step class and move on to the next step. Keep climbing up the steps!
Each Step Class is broken up into two parts held on two consecutive Sundays. Currently, classes are held the 1st and 2nd Sundays of the month from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. No prior reading required. Just sign up, show up, and be ready to learn.
- Step 1 – First Step (January, May, September): This class is for people who are interested in what Christianity is about or for people who are interested in eventually becoming a member of Step Off Ministry. In the first part of Step 1, we cover what “salvation” is according to the Bible: What is it? Why do we all need it? And, how do I get it if I want it? In the second part of Step 1, we cover some basic Christian doctrine, explaining and clarifying what Christians believe: What is the trinity, what does it mean to say the Bible is inspired by God, what is baptism and the Lord’s Supper, etc.?
- Step 2 – Family Rites (April, August, December): This class is for people who have passed Step 1 and who are interested in making Step Off Ministry their home church. In the first part of Step 2, we give an overview of the entire Bible (all 66 books!) and take a look at God’s grand plan of redemption from the beginning of creation to the time of Jesus. In the second part of Step 2, we cover the requirements for becoming a member of Step Off as well as the benefits of becoming a member. After completing Step 2, you can become an official member of Step Off Ministry.
- Step 3 – Step Up (February, July): This class is for members of Step Off who would like to become more involved in serving as an active member at our church. In the first part of the class, we cover what the role of the church is in society. We also cover some basics of spiritual disciplines: what are they? what are they for? And, how can I try some of them? In the second part of the class, we cover what spiritual gifts are, and you get to take your own spiritual gifts inventory test. Then, you will have a chance to meet with the pastors of Step Off personally to discuss some possible areas where you might best be able to get involved and serve at our church.
- Step 4 – Mad Love (November): This class is for people who have been serving at Step Off for some time and wish to either lead a ministry of their own or increase their level of commitment to our church. The goals of this class are to help develop some Biblical leadership qualities and help prepare one to take over and oversee some or all aspects of a particular ministry. Activities vary year to year.
- Step 5 – Servant for Life (June): This class is for people who have been serving at Step Off for some time and have completed Step 4. Those who are considering making ministry either a full-time or part-time vocation should begin to pray about taking this class and begin to discern what location God is calling him or her to serve. This classes activities vary depending on the needs of the year but generally include an overnight meeting for pastoral staff where important church plans for the upcoming year are discussed.
